A hole lot of love

You won't be Zeppelin up and down the back roads anytime soon. Funding for national roads is down 20% this year. The 'Big Freeze' must have frozen the Government's assets and funding too. Yes we are in a recession, in the red, but surely we can keep our roads in order. Perhaps Dempsey will bring back some tar and cement the next time he dodges the crisis. Galway is getting €179 million, while Limerick City Council receives a measly €379,000. The Galway race tent must have worked its last magic. In foresight, it will stop them boy/girl racers floating around.

Do we not pay taxes for the upkeep of our roads anyway? At least it’s an excuse for not driving a moped. Pizza delivery guy-You've been warned!!!

Until next time,

  1. Ok, so I'm going to sound like I'm giving out here, but just because it's a blog doesn't mean that you should start spelling poorly (Government's not Governments; €179m not 179 million; I could go on). Also, this is not really a blog about journalism, or a comment on journalism, it's a comment on the roads with a link to a story in The Irish Times. And waht does Zeppelin mean? TF

  2. Regarding the grammar and syntax I have to agree with Tom here, DK. However, as our class blog's blurb suggests isn't this a blog free for us to discuss issues about 'journalism, current affairs, the state of the nation and [our] hilarious adventures'? DC

  3. And we have many hilarious adventures!

  4. Tyhere was a whole radio show with Victor Barry on Red fm about the state of the roads. The largest text responce he's got from listeners to a topic apparently. So it seems like a lot of people are more than annoyed with the road conditions!

  5. I posted it from my computer at home. It has a very basic wordpad. I can't use symbols or ' strokes either. Please forgive me, I need to update it. I take your valid points though.

    Cheers,

  6. It's a Led Zepplin reference Tom, and a clever one at that.

Get hip with the kids tom.

  7. Actually a lot of people are spelling incorrectly which is really annoying because I'm a freak like that. So everyone should just take a little more time and care when blogging.

In fact, that's also what people need to do on the roads. You highlighted an important issue here DK. A 19 year old girl, in her first year of college, an only daughter from outside Mitchelstown was killed last week when her car hit a pot hole ,swerved across the road and collided with an oncoming car. What have the government got to say to her grieving parents?

  8. The terrible conditions on the roads doesn't seem to affect government members as much as the rest of us. There we were weaving in and out of treacherous crators on our once passable Kerry roads when all of a sudden we found ourselves gliding on something unfamiliar. The road was smooth, the tar a rich, dark, fresh colour. For a second I was confused but then I said: "Wait a minute! Isn't that Jackie Healy Rae's house?"
